Historical Overview:
Communication Service Company, founded in 1947 by Ira Smith was purchased and re-organized as Communication Service, Inc.(CSI) in 1977 by James Robison. In 1995, David Robison assumed control and 50% ownership. Additionally, he assumed the role of CEO and President of the Company, James Robison remained Chairman of the Board of Directors. Since then (2000) James Robison has retired from CSI, David Robison is Chairman of the Board, President and CEO. In 2006, David Robison assumed 100% of the operating shares of the Company.
Initially a Motorola Authorized Service and Warranty Shop (MSS), CSI took on added responsibility as a charter dealership for the Motorola Radius line of 2-way radios. Since then, CSI has taken advantage of every Motorola Sales and Service opportunity that has been offered to the Motorola dealer network. CSI is currently an authorized dealer for Motorola Radius, Professional and Branded 2-way radio products. In addition, CSI became a Manufacturer's Representative (MR) for Motorola in 2003. CSI is also a Motorola Authorized Wireless Networking Solutions Provider (Canopy) dealer.
Historically, CSI's primary focus has been on providing communications equipment repair and maintenance services for our customers. CSI currently supports its communications customers with infrastructure support, including repair and maintenance services, engineering and design, installation, configuration and programming and system operations support. CSI maintains bench repair capability to the component level for infrastructure and subscriber equipment. CSI is currently an authorized service and/or sales location for Motorola, Dynamic Instruments, Raytheon JPS and Kustom Signals. Since 1998, CSI has expanded its offerings to include comprehensive mobile installation services for public safety, premise wiring solutions and support for wireless networking solutions.
CSI currently employs 15 people, which includes 7 technicians and 3 installers. The management team consists of David Robison, President and CEO; Patrice Reeves, Operations Manager; Don Dessenberger, Service Manager - Hendersonville; Michele Capel, Finance and Accounting. The senior Technical staff consists of Steve Robison, Don Dessenberger, Randy Newman, Ross Land and Paul Jordan. Paul Jordan is also th company safety officer.
CSI operates from two fixed locations, Asheville (Headquarters) and Hendersonville. CSI's support of the former Franklin territory is provided by two technicians, who are currently living in the area. CSI's support of the for Hickory territory is provided by a sales representative based in Marion, NC and service technicians based in Asheville.
